Our Next Event:
DIA-ELF home visit...Supporting children with diabetes and their families
We are excited to offer a special opportunity for families with children living with diabetes to participate in our upcoming DIA-ELF home visit. This visit is designed to support children and their families by providing some education and personalized advice on managing diabetes in their daily life during the holidays.
Most of all it is to have fun, smile, laugh, dance, and enjoy the experience with the elves that are also diabetic.
How We Started
The concept was created in 2011 from a high school club, known as the Dance Diabetes Away Project (D.D.A). It was founded by Christina Martin and her best friend. After she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 13 years old, her goal was to make sure that children and families did not go through the scary, confusing, and lonely feelings that can come from being diagnosed with a chronic disease with no cure. The club was the first step and today, we are honored to be a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports and creates a positive community with over 500 families impacted by diabetes, like Christina’s.
